Nathaniel Cole, candidate for Regina Public School Board, Subdivision 3, is thrilled to learn that the new joint-use schools in Saskatchewan will have gender-neutral washrooms.
“Gender-neutral washrooms respect the dignity of gender-diverse students in our public school system. It is a great first step to ensure safety for students,” said Cole.
Cole stated the next step is to ensure all schools – not just new builds – have safe washrooms and locker rooms for every student, regardless how they identify.
As a high school student, Cole struggled with bullying about his sexuality.
“I can speak first hand that we cannot celebrate the contributions of queer and trans students without first ensuring their safety at school,” said Cole.
